SOUS CHEF - Salary Package - £28-£32k - Live-in available
The Sportsman's Arms Dartmouth is looking for a talented Sous Chef to join the team and help drive our already busy thriving food business forward. This is an ideal position for a creative hardworking chef who takes great pride in the food they serve. Perhaps you live in a City or Town and are looking for a lifestyle change?  We can offer live-in accommodation here in the stunning South Devon countryside with far reaching sea views! The Sportsman's is renowned for its excellent food in the local area and we are lucky to have incredibly loyal customers from the very local community, and in addition to this we want it to be a destination place attracting guests, including holidaymakers visiting the area, to try our food, receive our high standards of service in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
THE ROLE: Our menu changes regularly in line with seasons and demand, so while we always have pub favourites, there's always something new to work on too. You need to be a great communicator, team player, who has excellent attention to detail. Previous experience of working in busy kitchen at a senior level is required.  The Sportsman's Arms is a busy venue that serves breakfast (Friday's only) lunch and dinner and we also accommodate private functions, parties and weddings. You will be required to work weekends.  The job is really what you want to make of it though, therefore we're just as interested in who you are as we are in your cooking. Of course, you'll need to know the ins and outs of stock control, rotation and ordering, how ingredients change with the seasons and of course kitchen hygiene.  But it's more than that. Your duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Working with the Head Chef to bring all your care & attention to deliver a dining experience that’s up there with the best pubs in the UK
  • Supporting the Head chef with developing new menus
  • Ensuring food safety and health and hygiene
  • Understand aspects of P&L and budgeting
  • Support the Head Chef in maintaining, ordering, and controlling food stocks within a budget
  • Ensure food preparation and control meets requirements in respect to the set standards
In order to be considered, applicants must:
  • Have experience at Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie Level in a fast-paced kitchen team (ideally qualified to NVQ Level 1, 2 & 3 or Equivalent)
  • Have a solid background in delivering consistently high-quality experiences to customers
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of kitchen health and safety as well as food and hygiene standards
  • Have the ability to think on your feet and find the best solutions to any problems that arise
  • Have excellent organisation and outstanding communication skills
  • Have a genuine passion for delivering delicious food and ensuring an amazing customer experience
  • Build strong links between the kitchen and front of house teams, making sure every customer receives a dining experience they’ll love.
ASSISTANT MANAGER - Salary Package - £26-£30k - Live-in available
The Sportsman's Arms Dartmouth is looking for an experienced, hardworking Assistant Manager to join our team and help drive our already busy thriving business forward. This is an ideal position for competent, confident Assistant Manager, very comfortable in a in a fast-paced environment. Perhaps you live in a City or Town and are looking for a lifestyle change?  We can offer live-in accommodation here in the stunning South Devon countryside with far reaching sea views! The Sportsman's is renowned for its excellent food and outstanding service in the local area and we are lucky to have incredibly loyal customers from the very local community, and in addition to this we want it to be a destination place attracting guests, including holidaymakers visiting the area, to come and join us for drinks and food, and receive our high standards of service in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
THE ROLE: The Sportsman's Arms is a popular traditional pub located in the stunning Devon Countryside a couple of miles from the beautiful town of Dartmouth situated on the banks of the River Dart. To join our team you need to be a great communicator, team player, who has excellent attention to detail. Previous experience of working in busy pub/bar/restaurant at a senior level is required.  The Sportsman's Arms is a busy venue that serves breakfast (Friday's only) lunch and dinner and we also accommodate private functions, parties and weddings. You will be required to work evenings and weekends.  The job is really what you want to make of it though, therefore we're just as interested in who you are as we are in your management skills. Of course, you'll need to know the ins and outs of rota planning, ordering, excellent customer service and of course health & safety.  But it's more than that. What are you like to work with? Your duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the General Manager in the day to day management of the bar and restaurant, taking full responsibility in their absence
  • Proactive management of front of house team, leading by example to deliver the outstanding customer service which has come to be expected at this pub
  • Full engagement and involvement in back office operations including rota planning, ordering etc
  • All aspects of health & safety
In order to be considered, applicants must:
  • Currently be at assistant management level within a pub, bar, restaurant or hotel, environment and have held this role in a progressive capacity for at least 12 months
  • Have great leadership and motivational skills
  • The right candidate will be passionate, knowledgeable and creative about food & drink
  • Strive to maintain & exceed customer expectations at all times
  • Have a great front of house presence, be a great leader and naturally inspire your team
  • Have a good understanding of business operations
  • Love great food and excellent service!
  • Be able to work evenings and weekends
FRONT OF HOUSE TEAM MEMBERS - From £8.91 to £11 per hour dependent on experience - Full & Part time roles available
We are looking for customer focused, hard-working individuals to fill a number of Front of House roles here in beautiful South Devon. The ideal candidates will be eager to work and have previous hospitality experience. This role is perfect for someone looking for a career adventure and willing to take on a new challenge. You must be willing to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in and always provide customers with a high level of service.

What you will be doing?
As a Front of House team member, you will need to be willing to work in a fast-paced environment and be welcoming and energetic towards all our customers. Working with a team of people who are responsible for delivering consistently high-quality experiences to all of our customers
  • Maintaining high standards of service at all times
  • Anticipate customers’ needs
  • Make sure all areas of pub are cleaned and managed properly
  • Work in compliance with a safe working environment
In order to be considered, applicants must be:
  • Previous experience is preferred however having the right attitude is just as important
  • Bright and open to learning new skills
  • Willing to work late hours whilst keeping a positive attitude - you will need to work both day and evening shifts and weekends, but we can offer consecutive days off.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Always have high energy to match the atmosphere of the venue
  • Able to work as part of a team and build good work relationships
